JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Smeal College of Business seeks an Instructional Designer to join our eLearning Design and Innovation Group (eLDIG) team. The candidate hired for this position will support Smeal’s professional graduate programs, focusing on designing and developing non-credit courses for the growing Penn State Executive Programs (PSEP) portfolio. The candidate will work with college stakeholders, partnering with industry experts and faculty to deliver meaningful, career-enhancing programs for business leaders. 

 

The successful candidate should be a creative and innovative thinker who can apply research-based learning and adult learning theories, universal design principles, and best practices for developing courses for working professionals. We are searching for a team player who can work in a collaborative environment with the eLDIG team, the PSEP team, SMEs, and faculty to create engaging learning experiences in response to Smeal’s growing executive programs. Proven project management skills are required, as is the ability to conceptualize and effectively communicate with stakeholders to support program and curriculum goals, with an eye for aligning branding and marketing of non-credit offerings. This position spans multiple skill sets from supporting the design of PowerPoint presentations, enhancing engagement opportunities for participants, and designing and developing learning materials using various technologies to ensure a cohesive learning experience. Additionally, the candidate will provide LMS support to participants. 

 

Preferred candidates will have experience designing executive or corporate training across multiple delivery modes and creating resources to support the integration of instructional technologies in remote synchronous learning environments. Knowledge of trends in corporate education, current and emerging educational technologies such as virtual teaching technologies, content management systems, learning management systems, and course cataloging platforms such as Canvas Catalog is a plus. Understanding of laws and regulations associated with ADA compliance, including sections 504 and 508, WCAG compliance, and accessibility considerations for online learning materials is desirable. 

 

Typically requires a Master's degree in instructional design, learning science, or a related field plus three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience, education, and/or competencies are required for higher levels. This job will be filled as a standing appointment, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Additionally, a successful candidate must possess strong writing skill
