Reporting to the Manager, Data Science & AI (Authorizations), the Data Engineer III fills a need to harden our existing data pipelines and develop new ones. You will be working with data that is part Availity’s solution to automate approvals of prior authorizations in healthcare, and your work will help to improve that solution and prove its results to customers.

Location: Remote, US
Role qualifications:
- 5+ years' experience with relational database systems (SQL Server preferred).
- 4+ years' experience with Cloud services and data engineering tools (Azure Data Factory preferred)
- 4+ years' experience with writing PySpark pipelines
- Ability to complete work that is of high quality and documented for colleagues
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues, management, and clients to solve complex problems
- Ability to maintain focus and a positive outlook in a fast-paced and changing environment where team success is not judged on delivering the “perfect” solution, but on continuous improvement
- Experience and/or training equivalent to Masters or PhD in a Data-adjacent field
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Bicep
- Experience with unstructured data sources
- Experience with source control for code (Git preferred)
- Experience with cloud-based compute (Databricks preferred)
- Experience with Agile development
- Experience with Restful APIs
- Understanding of continuous integration, testing, deployment & release methodologies
- Familiarity with HIPAA and the importance of privacy of patient data
What you will be doing:
- Develop and maintain scalable cloud data pipelines from raw sources to feature stores through DataOps practices, including:
- Understanding the product/business requirements for new pipelines and translating to code
- Creating new pipelines in a design environment so they can be tested
- Deploying tested pipelines into production
- Monitoring pipelines in production for data quality issues and looking for ways to optimize pipelines for speed / cost
- Updating pipelines as needed
- Communicate within the team on project status / blockers to get help when needed and render aid when able
- Adhere to security and data protection policies
- Review processes and recommend changes to improve operations
