About the role

The Technical Systems Director leads and manages the low‑voltage business unit, overseeing the execution of telecommunications, security/access control, fire alarm, and related special‑systems construction projects while maintaining full P&L accountability aligned with departmental goals. This role is responsible for ensuring all projects are completed safely, effectively, and in full compliance with codes and company standards, including ownership of safety outcomes and enforcement of safe work practices. The Director develops and manages the Project Management team—consisting of Senior Project Managers and Project Managers—while overseeing a revenue portfolio typically exceeding $20M annually, with responsibility for forecasting, cost control, staffing alignment, and overall project performance. In addition to operational leadership, the Director supports business growth by delivering excellent customer service, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality execution, while collaborating with senior leadership to assess risks, resolve challenges, and drive continuous improvement through standardized processes, workforce development, and transparent reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Managing all business aspects with their team for multiple concurrent projects while concurrently ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining established quality standards.
  • Actively manage the workload, professional development, and client development skills of project management staff. Promote client development while developing professional skills of project management staff.
  • Promote positive customer relations by dealing professionally and fairly with all contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, and continually instilling this philosophy in the business unit with regards to safety, quality, customer service, and profitability.
  • Initiate, execute, and document a quality pre-con, start-up meeting aligned with company standard.
  • Accountable for contract management, claims, and disputes resolutions.
  • Working with the Estimating department to review estimate, RECAPS and turnover, as well as the ability to estimate and procure electrical projects in a competitive market successfully.
  • Acts as a mentor for new and existing Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Assistant Project Managers on properly managing their teams.
  • Perform weekly and monthly reviews with teams to ensure adherence to schedules, quality of work, safety, administration, and profitability.
  • Ensure qualified personnel are in place for making specific project assignments that will meet with project deliverables and make specific project assignments to meet project needs.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and document project close out meetings. Verify project data sheets and photos (with client’s permission) for all completed projects.
  • Drive division profitability through effective project execution.
  • Develop the organization to achieve excellence through continuous improvement. Support lesson learned activity and implement identified initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to EC Electric’s standards of quality, safety, and best practices.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop the group of direct reports.
  • Responsible for work assignments, hiring, termination, promotions, and performance appraisals.
  • Review the overall contractual requirements and risks for all projects.
  • Manage project review process with emphasis on insuring quality financial forecasting.
  • Ensure construction estimates are completed to align with project workflow and customers master schedule.
  • Proactively and systematically communicate challenges, risks, and successes to the Project Executive, the team, and any and all direct reports.
  • Provides and maintain annual business plans in conjunction with the overall company, updating results on a quarterly basis.
  • Demonstrate a consistent ability to conduct daily tact and professionalism in communicating with external and internal customers.

Requirements

  1. Proven ability to manage, mentor, and train Project Managers and collaborate across teams.
  2. Strong background in leading project start-ups, kick-offs, and overseeing project execution using structured methodologies.
  3. Experience managing project financials, including labor planning, projections, WIP readiness, and change order pricing.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with Project Executives, Superintendents, and clients, including honest reporting and escalation of issues.
  5. Demonstrated success in maintaining and strengthening client relationships throughout project lifecycles.
