Director Ground Services

Essential Job Functions

• Work with internal stake holders to establish scheduled transportation services between key designated markets.
• Recruits, vets and on-boards carrier/vendors to support current and projected growth requirements.
• Conducts QBR’s with key service providers record, publish and promote results with all stakeholders.
• Actively recruits drivers to adequately expand the fleet to meet growth goals.
• High level of engagement with fleet, commit to the career success and personal growth of driver through positive working relationships.
• Develops and maintains cartage services in key designated markets.
• Works with stakeholders to develop dispatch/coordinator job descriptions and work instructions.
• Actively engages with sales to identify, develop and close revenue opportunities for domestic services including cross- and up-sell of existing clients and new business form new customers
• Actively monitors domestic services pipeline in Vision for assigned region
• Develops procedures to support ground product operations, internal and external.
• Develops, implements and manages non-asset and in-house based logistics management, white glove services to support high touch pick-up and delivery service requirements.
• Oversees company compliance with all Department of Transport (DOT) regulations regarding vehicles, drivers and safety.
• Coaches, trains and mentors internal stakeholders and provide career development opportunities through training and quality management activities.
• Ensures a clean, safe work environment
• Performs other duties as assigned

Other Skills & Abilities

• Strong working knowledge and understanding of DOT requirements, and ability to manage according to them.
• Good management skills in making driver assignments, and developing cooperation among the team of drivers
• Experience in client development, business development and sales
• Ability to manage and coordinate various shipping methods to achieve improved cohesive and cost-efficient operation.
• Proficient at MS Office, and working knowledge of electronic inventory control system
• Ability to pay attention to detail and be highly organized.
• Excellent leadership, integrity, communication skills and the ability to work in a professional team are essential
• Working knowledge of safety and security procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Talking, hearing and using hands to operate computer equipment

• Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

Education & Experience

• BS or BA degree preferred, High School Diploma/GED is required.
• 10 or more years of experience with Transportation/Logistics industry.
• 5 year’s experience with DOT requirements and training
• 5 or more years of supervisory or management experience
• 5 years sales experience or combination of sales management and direct sales

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

• Professional certification may be required in some areas.
