OnsiteThe Battle Management Command & Control (BMC2) Capabilities engineering organization in Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join our software development team located onsite in St. Petersburg, FL. In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real-time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, and many others. Teams are organized using Agile scrum methodology.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Participate in internal review of software components and systems.
- Coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower-level professionals.
- Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.
- Operate in a collaborative, SAFe agile environment.
Qualifications/ Experience Needed:
- Experience with infrastructure as code automation technologies for server and embedded systems: Ansible and Yocto Linux preferred
- Experience with configuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure to support building and executing C++ applications.
- Experience with configuring and validating Linux infrastructure to be compliant with applicable STIGs.
- Experience with configuring and validating Linux infrastructure to support network services like NTP, PTP, NFS, SSHFS,.
- Experience with configuring network switching equipment to support VLAN isolation, cross-VLAN routing, spanning tree protocols, and multicast routing.
- Experience with configuring network switching equipment to be compliant with applicable STIGs.
- Experience configuring host-based and network packet filtering firewalls.
- Experience with embedded device emulation like QEMU.
- Experience with security tools like Nessus and OpenSCAP.
- Experience with scripting languages like bash and python
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
- Active and transferable U.S. government DoD issued Interim Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date
- U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scripting languages like bash and python.
- Experience with container scanning and SBOM tools like Anchore, Syft, and Grype.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, InfluxDB, and Prometheus.
- Experience with static code analysis and software composition analysis tools like Coverity, SonarQube, and BlackDuck.
- Experience working with large, complex software systems and refactoring legacy code.
- Experience writing software for and debugging issues in real-time multithreaded software applications.

The position is based in St. Petersburg, FL, nicknamed “The Sunshine City” for its average of 248 days of sunshine a year. The area is ideal for fishing, boating, and beautiful top rated Gulf beaches. It’s also known for its art and culture scene, as well as its wide variety of local restaurants and bars. For sports fans, The Tampa Bay area is home to the Tampa Bay Rays (MLB), Buccaneers (NFL), and Lightning (NHL).
