NAS-Sr Engineer

Successful candidate will demonstrate use of independent judgment in performing calculations and/or designs and be able to present and justify analyses to regulatory, quality and safety reviews. Individual will demonstrate expert knowledge of computer languages, data structures, and software design methods and techniques. Successful candidate will demonstrate use of independent judgment in performing calculations and/or designs and be able to present and justify analyses to regulatory, quality and safety reviews. Individual will possess superior technical knowledge of nuclear and mechanical disciplines and software engineering. Successful candidate will have the ability to work on cross-discipline teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions and develop analyses to evaluate plant performance, safety, and reliability. Individual must have ability to interface and work with software vendors, as needed. 

Must be familiar with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry as well as possess working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (including the NRC, DOE, etc.). Good client interface/communication skills and understanding of the roles of other disciplines, as well as ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines, are a must.

Potential Technical Tasks:  Throughout the time in this position, the following tasks may be performed:

• Preparation and review of Thermal-Hydraulic and/or Radiological computer models
• Software development
• Software verification and validation
• Design and conduct experiments and analyze results
• Independently formulate and solve problems
• Develop new solution techniques and/or improved engineering processes
• Mentor personnel on technical approaches, processes, and techniques.
• Analyze system specification and translate into software requirements specification 
• Review and maintain legacy code
• Participate in technical design meetings with both staff and clients
• Document code in a manner consistent with company standards
• Test and review software
• Quickly learn new programming languages
• Develop new techniques and/or improve software development processes

Managerial Responsibilities:  Coordinates and assigns tasks to Associate Engineers, Engineers and Senior Engineers, technicians and administrative personnel and may supervise personnel to complete assignments/projects. Prepares and reviews scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Prepares proposals for professional services.

Education Required:  Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, mechanical, or chemical engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program. 

Experience Required: Eight (8) years experience minimum, including credit for advanced engineering and science degrees, with at least four (4) of those years (since receiving the Bachelor’s Degree) in the nuclear power industry.  Experience in the analysis, design and/or operation of PWR, BWR and/or advanced nuclear plant or chemical/petrochemical plant designs is required. Experience with complex computer software or thermal-hydraulic computer code analysis and chemical process modeling are required. Individual will demonstrate knowledge of computer languages, data structures, and software design methods and techniques. Experience maintaining and extending codes developed under a software QA program is required. Experience in code walkthroughs and reviewing and checking analyses prepared by other engineers is required.

Other Qualifications:  All applicants must possess good oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required. Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently. Ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required at times. Travel is required to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required.
