The Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) serves as a live control center, with caregivers monitoring patients 24/7 to enhance care and safety. As a Monitor Technician, you will perform ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors and provide appropriate nursing staff with timely notification of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact patient condition. This is a great team that you will get to work very closely with while enhancing your knowledge each and every day.
A caregiver in this position works 2 12-hour days from 7:00AM - 7:30PM, including some weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm and vital signs.
Notify appropriate nursing staff of any changes according to clinician, provider orders and/or in accordance with departmental protocols.
Interpret patient cardiac/hemodynamic rhythm and document in the electronic medical record.
Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.
Orient and mentor new caregivers, serving as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
Provide reports for the oncoming shift.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities through formal training program in Allied Health or a healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Medical Assisting, EMT or a similar field) OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home or healthcare setting
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
