SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the accounting operations of the company. Primary responsibilities include leading the month-end closing processes, journal entries adjustments and reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger system and ensuring the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results in compliance with US GAAP and tax compliance.

This position requires a strong foundation in basic accounting concepts - Prepaid Expenses, Receivables and Payables, Fixed Assets, Accruals/Contingencies, Debt. The ideal candidate will have a combination of excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure correct US GAAP accounting treatment in the recording of transactions for the preparation of accurate US GAAP financial statements.
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities Research and resolve all reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Maintain general ledger and trial balance reconciliation schedules.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to ensure accuracy of information as it relates to expenses and revenue recognition.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliation of multiple bank accounts and investment bank accounts.
  • Perform the monthly fixed assets depreciation; maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller in the preparation of the detailed monthly operating and financial reports.
  • Determine rental property accounting transactions and monitor monthly property management reporting.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller in the preparation of the prepared by client (PBC) schedules during the annual audit and tax activity.
  • Monitor and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate recordkeeping, safeguarding of assets and appropriate segregation of duties. Ensure that other departments involved in financial activities have adequate controls.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Continuous evaluation and identification of process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet department objectives.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and in-depth understanding of GAAP.
  • Ability to respond to unpredictable business demands, keep multiple projects on track simultaneously and work well under pressure and short deadlines.

  • Actively keep abreast of changing US GAAP accounting regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Solid experience with supporting audit activities and managing reporting, analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and accounting for investments and unrelated business income.
  • High level of attention to detail and comfortable working in a deadline driven environment.
  • Technology savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, NetSuite system experience is highly desirable.
