Who we need:

This position will work with Alabama Medicaid, must be located within Alabama, and reside within driving distance of the Alabama Medicaid home office in Montgomery, Alabama. The Clinical Pharmacist assigned to work with Alabama Medicaid must possess superior clinical competence, demonstrate proficiency in claims processing, drug therapy management, policy, pharmacy operations, and have superior computer, written , communication, analytical thinking and problem solving skills, and be willing to travel if needed. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist assigned to work with Alabama Medicaid must have at minimum 3 years of experience in outpatient/community pharmacy, must be licensed in the State of Alabama, hold a current preceptor license (or must obtain preceptor license within first 6 months of work), and must be in good standing with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy.

This position will be physically located and work at the Medicaid central office in Montgomery, Alabama on a full-time basis (i.e. fully dedicated to Alabama); work schedule will be at the discretion of the Alabama Medicaid Agency Director of Clinical Services/Pharmacy to best serve Medicaid. The majority of his/her time will be spent reviewing claims, policy, auditing, and making recommendations to Medicaid’s Pharmacy and DME Program staff. He/she will report to the Pharmacy Program/Clinical Services Director for work assignments and scheduling requests.

What you’ll do:

  1. Reviews, creates, or maintains various documents /reports used internally as well as publicly and ensure the information is correct.
  2. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position including prior authorization reviews, disease management, quality control, and criteria management.
  3. Attend and participate in meetings (in person, telephonic, and virtual) with Medicaid and other stakeholders.
  4. Conduct drug product research and provide recommendations for coverage and restrictions by applying Medicaid guidelines.
  5. Oversee the Pharmacy Lock In program.
  6. Review and revise drug lists for Pharmacy &Therapeutic (P&T) as well as Drug Utilization Review (DUR) meetings, review of clinical packet for meetings, and coordination of appropriate lists once clinical review is complete.
  7. Must hold a current preceptor license in the state of Alabama (or must obtain preceptor license within first 6 months of work). Accept pharmacy students from one or more school(s) of pharmacy in the state of Alabama. Coordinate and oversee all student activities, prepare and grade assignments in accordance with School of Pharmacy guidelines, and ensure student receives well-rounded rotation that reflects all aspects of Medicaid pharmacy, school requirements, and current policies.
