The Interventional Radiology APP (Advanced Practice Provider) works closely with other members of interventional radiology (IR) section to provide specialized healthcare to patients. Responsibilities include triaging inpatient and outpatient consult requests, seeing and examining inpatients and outpatients to develop initial treatment plans and provide post-procedure care, ordering relevant diagnostic studies, performing minor procedures, and collaborating with referring providers.
Essential Functions:
Triage inpatient consult requests, includes seeing and examining patients, discussing treatment plan with IR physicians, and communicating with requesting provider. (15%)
See and examine post-procedure inpatients to ensure appropriate recovery/response to treatment, discuss these rounds patients with IR physician staff. (15%)
Triage outpatient consult requests, includes completion of requests that do not require imaging review to determine appropriateness/feasibility and partial completion of requests that do require imaging review which are subsequently finalized by IR physician staff. (15%)
See patients in clinic independently and in conjunction with IR physicians, includes seeing new and follow-up patients and ordering appropriate laboratory and imaging studies as well as referrals to other specialties as needed. (15%)
Complete minor procedures, including but not limited to paracentesis, thoracentesis, injections, and superficial biopsies. (10%)
Complete required documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. Prepare and maintain complete and accurate charts and dictations. (10%)
Participate in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising IR physician staff. (10%)
Communicate and collaborate with Denver Health staff within and outside IR section in professional and courteous manner. (5%)
Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (5%)
Education:
Master's Degree (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) Required
Licenses:
NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required or
PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required and
ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Able to learn IR specific information regarding procedural indications and techniques.
Able to elicit histories from, perform physical exams on, and formulate assessments and IR related treatment plans for patients.
Able to order appropriate diagnostic studies.
Knowledge of appropriate indications for and administration of relevant medications.
Able to communicate with patients in a professional and reassuring manner when discussing treatment options and prognoses.
Knowledge to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting appropriate treatment.
Able to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Able to complete accurate and timely documentation.
Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Denver Health employees.
