AnthropicAbout the role
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Anthropic is seeking a strategic Segment Marketing Lead to own the complete startup marketing strategy at Anthropic, partnering directly with leading VCs (Y Combinator, Lightspeed Ventures, Accel) to help AI-native startups and developers build with Claude. This is a 0-to-1 opportunity—you'll be our first dedicated startup segment marketer, building the strategy and program infrastructure from the ground up. You'll define how Anthropic engages with the fastest-growing segment in technology and become our face to the VC ecosystem, directly influencing how thousands of developers and founders approach AI development.
Responsibilities:
- Build strategic VC partnerships that drive portfolio engagement—design and launch co-marketing programs with tier-1 VCs (YC, Lightspeed, Bessemer, and more), own relationship end-to-end, negotiate partnership terms, and create exclusive benefits
- Stand up scaled ABM programs for high-value startup accounts—identify and prioritize top 500 AI-native startups, build tiered programs balancing personalization with scale, own full lifecycle from selection through conversion
- Create developer and founder engagement strategies that resonate with technical audiences—build content, community, and campaigns that earn respect (technical documentation, developer events, founder-to-founder programs, authentic community engagement)
- Design and execute targeted events and programs—partner with VCs to create Demo Days, office hours, technical workshops, and founder dinners that provide genuine value
- Extend and adapt foundational product marketing messages into fully-developed, startup-specific campaign materials—including creating slides, email copy, technical content, and sales enablement materials with minimal guidance
- Define success metrics and drive continuous optimization—establish KPIs, build dashboards, conduct A/B testing, own pipeline contribution and conversion rates
- Partner closely with Sales, Solutions, Product, Field Marketing, and Growth Marketing on integrated strategies
- Align with startup sales teams on account prioritization, goals, and engagement strategies
Key objectives:
- Build tight alignment with VC ecosystem and startup sales teams
- Scale pipeline generation within AI-native startup segment
- Establish Anthropic as the AI partner of choice for high-growth startups
- Drive developer and founder adoption through authentic technical engagement
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 5-7+ years in B2B marketing roles focused on startups, developers, or technical founders (product marketing, developer relations, growth marketing, or segment marketing)
- Have built relationships with VCs, worked at a VC firm, or successfully partnered with accelerators/VCs to drive portfolio engagement
- Can speak credibly about technical products to technical audiences—understand AI concepts, developer workflows, and technical use cases well enough to review content and guide messaging
- Excel at 0-to-1 program building—comfortable building from scratch, wearing multiple hats, and scaling based on data
- Are data-driven with strong analytical skills—experienced with Salesforce, marketing analytics, A/B testing, and measuring program ROI
- Possess exceptional communication skills and can create compelling content—outstanding writer who crafts narratives for founders, developers, and VCs
- Have strong stakeholder management skills and work seamlessly across sales, product, and marketing teams
- Thrive in fast-paced environments with bias to action and comfort with ambiguity
Ideal candidates may also have:
- Direct experience working for or with venture capital firms like Y Combinator, Lightspeed Ventures, Accel, a16z, Sequoia Capital
- Developer advocate or developer relations background with active presence in technical communities (GitHub, Stack Overflow, X, technical forums)
- Technical background (former developer role, or equivalent hands-on experience with code and AI)
