Adjunct Faculty - Hospitality Administration

About the role

Ivy Tech Bloomington campus is searching for individuals to teach 8 week Hospitality courses in the fall semester starting mid August. There are multiple positions available to fill the following courses.
** HOSP 102 Basic Food Theory and Skills; this class is focused on the basic skills needed to be in a commercial kitchen, including: culinary math, knife skills, cooking methods, standardized recipe cards, sanitation. Meets M/T 4-9pm and W/Th 9am - 2pm 8/19 - 10/13/24.

** HOSP 103 Soups, Stocks, and Sauces; expands on HOSP102 to learn to create soups, stocks, sauces from scratch. Meets M/T 4-9pm 10/21/24 - 12/15/24.
To be eligible to teach HOSP 102 or 103 applicants must have ServeSafe Certification required, Industry Certification Preferred with two or more years of directly related work experience.

** HOSP 108 Human Resources Management; this class teaches the hiring and interview skills as well as the basis of HR from a hiring manager's point of view. Meets M/T 12:30 - 3:30pm 10/21- 12/15/24. Applicants must possess an earned associates or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and

** HOSP 201 Purchasing and Cost Control: this class relates to all aspects of purchasing and cost control in the food service industry. notes: meets M/T 12:30 - 3:30 10/21 - 12/15/24.

** HOSP 207 Customer Service: this class operates our coffee shop and serves as FOH for our Yellowwood restaurant. Meets W/Th 9am - 2pm 10/21 - 12/15/24.
To be eligible to teach 201 or 207, Applicants must possess an earned associates or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and

** HOSP 208 Cakes, Icings, Fillings - this class focuses on the science and methods of cake production and some basic finishing techniques. Meets W/Th 9am - 2 pm 10/21 - 12/15/24.

** HOSP 209 Advanced Decorating and Candies - this class teaches students advanced skills in cake and pastry decoration as well as candy production. Meets W/Th 4-9pm 10/21/24 - 12/15/24.

** HOSP 230 Wedding Cakes - this class is all about wedding cake production, logistics, and advanced decorating skills.

To be eligible to teach 208, 209 and 230 applicants must have: ServeSafe Certification required, Industry Certification Preferred and have five years or more of directly related work experience.

Typical HOSP adjuncts work 10hrs per week; two days 5hrs each. There are day and evening courses. Adjuncts are paid $46.50 per contact hour and could teach up to 12hrs per week.

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.

  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.

  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.

  • Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.

  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).

  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.

  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
