Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide Spiritual and Emotional Support

  • Offer spiritual care, emotional comfort, and pastoral presence to patients, families, and staff, regardless of faith tradition or belief system.

Provide Crisis and Bereavement Support

  • Respond to emergencies (such as trauma, code events, or death notifications) and support families and staff during grief and crisis situations.

Collaborate with Healthcare Team

  • Work alongside doctors, nurses, and social workers to integrate spiritual care into overall patient treatment and end-of-life care plans.

Assess Spiritual Needs

  • Perform spiritual assessments as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to identify and document patients’ spiritual or existential needs.

Collaborate with Healthcare Team

  • Work alongside doctors, nurses, and social workers to integrate spiritual care into overall patient treatment and end-of-life care plans.

Provide Crisis and Bereavement Support

  • Respond to emergencies (such as trauma, code events, or death notifications) and support families and staff during grief and crisis situations.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Bachelor and Masters Degree Preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:

  • Board Certified or eligible for certification, which must be acquired within 24 months of hire, through (APC) The Association of Professional Chaplains, (NACC) The National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or (NAJC) National Association of Jewish Chaplains

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a skilled pastoral care provider with minimum of two (2) years of hospital experience (CPE internships or residencies are applicable), preferably at a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Possess the capacity to make departmental presentations regarding the provision of pastoral care in the hospital setting.
  • Proven ability to work with all levels of Hospital/University personnel and all internal/external customers.
