To be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions. Employment is contingent upon completing background check, physical and back x-ray. 
 
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.
 
This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Stationary Engineer to be considered for permanent appointment. 
 
Position Overview: This is a journeyman level position involving responsibility for the operation, monitoring and repair of all heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and allied environmental control systems.  An incumbent responds to emergency calls in addition to performing scheduled preventative maintenance on all HVAC and other operating equipment within the facility.  An incumbent is generally supervised by a Senior Stationary Engineer but is permitted to exercise a considerable degree of independent judgment in carrying out the assigned duties.  Direct supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate maintenance Personnel.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience in large-scale operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
Working knowledge of the construction and the safe and efficient operation of boilers, chillers and auxiliary heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in the maintenance and repair of boiler, chiller, and auxiliary heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in making mechanical and routine electrical repairs to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing systems; ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications; ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems physical condition commensurate with the demands of the positions. A clean, valid NYS Driver's license is required. 
 
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Stationary Engineer performs work under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities or his/her designee.  
 
• Operates and monitors all heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, meters and gauges to ensure proper functioning and Develops, implements and executes energy conservation measures to reduce energy consumption;
• Monitors and applies chemicals for water treatment used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
• Performs repairs and minor overhauls of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and allied control systems;
• Performs preventative maintenance on all HVAC and other operating equipment;
• Responds to emergency calls regarding mechanical, electric
