Senior Systems Accountant

Job Description

The Financial Accounting Group is looking to hire a Senior Systems Accountant. The individual will execute job responsibilities requiring an experienced professional with a strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. This includes interpreting accounting data, assessing reports, and recommending action to be taken.

Duties and Responsibilites

• Research accounting guidance, Laboratory policy and other guidance to model, document and implement new accounting practices/activities
• Interpret Laboratory policy, Federal regulations and other guidance to determine allowability and allocability of costs to the Lab’s Prime contract and present recommendations to management Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements for internal management, MIT campus and external customers, as needed. Includes Tax and Government reporting
• Lead Accounting’s process improvement initiatives, including improvements to internal documentation & procedures, process standardization, automation, quarter/year-end close and internal control improvements
• Works with the Laboratory business and IT management teams to analyze processes and drive improvements such as utilizing AI technology and standardizing reporting.
• Ability to evaluate and understand the current condition of program financial data and reporting at the Laboratory including: SAP enterprise system (SRM, S/4, Project Systems, BW) and then address changes required for new strategy for reporting and business management.
• Support Accounting Optimization project by impact analysis on potential changes in SAP S/4
• Support the implementation/upgrade of financial systems
• Support the Manager of Accounting and other responsibilities as needed

Requirements

• B.S./B.B.A. degree in Accounting/Finance, or related field required. MS/MBA preferred. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Accounting or related discipline
• Full cycle month end close experience in ERP software solutions, SAP Preferred
• A solid understanding of financial and government processes with strong analytical skills
• Proficiency with computer-based financial management tools is required
• Experience developing and implementing process improvements is required Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills is required Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines Microsoft Office Products proficiency required
• Advanced Excel skills required
• Experience with SAP system required
• Experience with Department of Defense contracts or regulations (OMB, FAR, DFARs) is preferred
• Experience with DCAA and external audits is preferred
