The School of Nursing in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University has developed a research-intensive/teaching/learning environment for students and faculty. About the opportunity

The Associate Chair (AC) is directly accountable to the Dean and serves as the chief administrator overseeing operational functions that enable the execution of the strategic plan and achievement of the School of Nursing’s (SON) goals and mission. The AC provides innovative leadership and oversight for the quality and financial management of the academic programs and enrollment management and student affairs, and oversees the work of the Assistant Dean for Prelicensure Programs, Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs, Assistant Dean for Research, Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs, and the staff positions reporting directly to the SON Dean’s office.

In addition, the AC works closely with the Dean, faculty, and staff to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and to foster a positive and healthy work environment across the school.

The AC is a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team and works collaboratively with fellow SON senior leadership to ensure the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the organization through shared responsibility of the development, design, and improvement of systems that will lead to the full execution of the strategic plan.

Major Responsibilities

Leadership in Academic Excellence

  • Serves as direct liaison between the academic functions of SON and the business functions and provides strategic direction for maximizing resources and efficiency.  Identifies resources required for the implementation of the strategic plan and potential obstacles that need to be addressed.
  • Provides innovative leadership and ensures the integrity of the academic programs.
  • Leads the planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of program curricula in collaboration with and the Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning, the Program Directors and the faculty.
  • Partners with and supports the Director of Quality and Compliance to lead the SON accreditation process to ensure compliance with accrediting and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, Assistant Deans, and College in the development of contracts with health systems and other entities for the delivery of academic programs.
