OPS lab and field technician (Full time 40 hours per week)

• Physical ability to work in various weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
• Physical movement to include kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and standing.

Job Description: The Horticultural Science Department, UF/IFAS Horticultural Science Research Grove is looking for someone to join our team as a full-time field and lab technician.   The following list is not all-inclusive, nor does it cover the full extent of duties to be performed:

• Fieldwork involves propagation, planting and cultivation of citrus trees.
• Lab work involves plant tissue culture and DNA extractions.
• Data collection at experimental trials and analyses in the greenhouse and laboratory.
• Monitor the trees’ requirements and control measurements on microbial or insect infestations.
• Maintain maps and records of materials and activities for trial.
• Assists researchers and personnel for planting, fertilizing, and pruning trees.
• Collect and prepare samples from trials (fruit, leaf).

Expected Salary:

$15-20/hour commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications:

Preferred:

• Bachelor´s degree in Agriculture or related field preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with data collection tools and software (Excel, etc.).
• Lab experience working in aseptic conditions (plant tissue culture, in vitro propagation).
• Previous experience in field research or agricultural practices is preferred.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with the research team and local growers.
