Our Opportunity

We are looking to fill the role of a National HSQES Manager – Construction and you will have the option to be based in either Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Construction, the National HSQES Manager will be responsible for providing national leadership, support, coordination and value creation in Health and Safety, Quality (IMS), Environment and Sustainability for the Construction business.

This position is crucial in helping deliver work for our customers safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standard.

Some of your key accountabilities will be:

  • Support and actively contribute to the development and execution of the Fulton Hogan Australia (FHA) Health, Safety, Quality, Environment and Sustainability strategy in collaboration with the CEO Construction, the Construction regional stream HSQES leads and the FHA/FH Infrastructure Services/FH Utilities National HSQES leads, ensuring consistency across the overall business and alignment to the overarching strategy.
  • Focus, lead and measure performance and safety improvement opportunities on our critical safety risks, including challenging the status quo and looking for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Through disciplined cyclic governance practices, verify, monitor and review Quality standards and operating practices, alerting the CEO Construction and the relevant General Manager to areas of concern and providing recommended solutions to mitigate.
  • Set, monitor and review measurable health, safety, quality, environment and sustainability targets in line with FHA strategic objectives providing accurate reporting of position to CEO Construction.
  • Support the operational delivery of Sustainability strategic initiatives aligned to FHA Strategy and Group requirements.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental legislation, regulation and company standards relating to our operational activities, and the hazards and risk they present.
  • Lead REAL values by example and challenge harmful behaviours in others.
  • Support and advise on the review of existing internal systems, procedures and practices to continually enhance the cost efficiency and uniformity of all business stream operations.
  • Identify any risks and appropriately manage a solution-based approach with the CEO Construction.

How you’ll connect to the role?

This is a rare leadership position that provides you an opportunity to demonstrate your technical capability and expertise across the HSQES remit by delivering positive outcomes and driving the business’s short and long-term strategic direction in partnership with key stakeholders.

You will have exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership capabilities to achieve agreed goals and performance standards whilst leading a culture that ensures a safe and values-based workplace environment.

You are a leader with prior experience overseeing HSQES teams, with the capacity to effectively communicate and report to an executive level and a proven track record leading strategy in an HSQES Environment. What will set you up for success is your 10+ years’ experience in similar roles where you were required to obtain strong technical knowledge of the industry, safety/environmental legislation and key high-risk activities, preferably in the construction sector (or a role that is similar). This, in conjunction with your ability to raise awareness, influence change, lead by example, and develop collaboration and cooperation from all levels within the company will be pivotal for effective performance. In addition to your leadership capabilities, it will be your effective stakeholder management skills that will be critical to your success in this role.
