Senior Associate Scientist, Purification

Just-Evotec is seeking a motivated and creative scientist or engineer who desires a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. As a downstream process design scientist/engineer, you will join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to develop purification processes for low-cost mammalian derived antibody biotherapeutic manufacturing. Process design at Just-Evotec means exposure to innovative technologies like high throughput automated robotic screening and continuous processing technologies for a first-of-its-kind flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will have experience in downstream purification chromatography and filtration theory and operations, knowledge of purification chromatography resins, column hardware, AKTA equipment, Unicorn software, titration operations, depth filtration, viral filtration, and tangential flow filtration. Experience with high throughput chromatography screening, chromatography mechanistic modeling, multicolumn chromatography, Desing of Experiments and analysis, late stage characterization, and process transfer into manufacturing is a plus. The ideal candidate is well organized, has strong written and verbal communications skills, strong laboratory skills, works well independently and in teams, and continually looks for ways to improve processes and technology.  

This is a hybrid position and is expected to be 70-80% onsite at the Just-Evotec location in Redmond WA. 

Responsibilities: 

• Work on a team to develop purification processes for biotherapeutics manufacturing 

• Accurately and consistently record laboratory work in electronic lab notebooks and paper batch records 

• Compound purification buffers and solutions, assemble and pack chromatography column hardware 

• Operate AKTA Avant & Pure systems using Unicorn software, Pendotech PMAT and four-channel NFF automated data collection systems, Repligen automated TFF systems, and glass washers 

• Analytical results analysis from chromatography operations, organization and presentation of data, and report writing 

• Support the transfer processes to manufacturing facilities 

• Technology development to expand platform capabilities, reduce cost, and improve the efficiency of purification processes 

Position Requirements:  

• BS or MS degree in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related field and 2-5 years of relevant laboratory experience 

• Knowledgeable in mammalian derived downstream purification development, resin modalities (affinity, IEX, MM, HIC) and chromatography purification theory, and buffer compounding 

• Normal and tangential flow filtration theory and operation for depth filtration, and UF/DF 

• Excellent experimental design and analysis skills 

• Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) 

Additional Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience executing laboratory scale viral filtration and single pass TFF operations 

• Experience with data manipulation and presentation using JMP 

• Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and analysis using statistical software packages (JMP, MATLAB, etc.) 

• Experience with Late Stage Process Characterization and manufacturing deviation support 

• Experience with automation method development and operation using TCAN and high throughput chromatography resin screening
