This position is a one-year limited contract serving as maternity cover.

TEAM AND ROLE

As a Principal Packaging & Quality Engineer (all genders) in our Packaging R&D Team, you will develop new unpacking experiences and quality frameworks. You will rethink our current customer-facing and intralogistics packaging and optimise or design new scalable solutions. You work jointly with our supply partners, warehouse teams and internal stakeholders, always keeping a strong focus on our customers and the planet.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Responsibility for development of the Zalando Group packaging portfolio.

• Drive innovation to enable to engineer and design a more sustainable, scalable packaging portfolio and develop new testing frameworks .

• Develop new testing frameworks for quality management, centrally and for our on-site teams. 

• Lead alignment with internal stakeholders such as Logistics Operations, Transport, Procurement and Warehouse teams when updating or building new unboxing experiences.

• Engage with our suppliers, manufacturers and logistics service providers as well as universities and start-ups to identify trends and collaboration opportunities.

• Identify opportunities in the sustainable packaging sphere to elevate our customer experience and mentor junior packaging and quality engineers.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Degree with a focus on Packaging Engineering (Material Science expertise is a plus), Industrial engineering, Logistics Engineering or comparable education as well as at least 5-8 years of professional experience in the area of product / service development within Logistics or Supply Chain. 

• Relevant professional experience designing new customer propositions and bringing physical products from ideation to production to hand over for scaling. Experience working for a packaging supplier is a plus. 

• Passion for developing new customer experiences with sustainability top of mind, paper-based packaging, manufacturing, logistics, sustainability desirable.

• Experience developing quality/testing frameworks and standards, performing quality lab testing (ISTA, ISO etc). 

• Excellent English communications skills (German strongly desirable).
