Duke Raleigh Hospital 3400 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC

 

Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in our Lung Cancer Screening and Lung Nodule Clinic with locations in Durham and Raleigh, NC. The APP will see patients via telemedicine and in-person at our Duke-based clinics.  They will review new patient referrals, collect and document data, order radiologic and laboratory studies and procedures, order and refer for professional consultations, and provide direct patient care services.  Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review referrals and order the appropriate diagnostic studies, procedures and services for each patient population.
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations for in-person patients as appropriate, document and record data in progress notes. Prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings, obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Order and ensure scheduling of diagnostic studies and procedures; explain necessity, preparation nature and anticipated effects of these studies to the patient. Communicate with referring providers regarding diagnostic study results, recommendations for follow up, and plan.  Refer to specialty providers as indicated.
  • Participate in the creation of our weekly multidisciplinary case conference list.  Attend these meetings to review and discuss positive lung cancer screening CT scans and particular cases of interest.  Communicate results and recommendations to primary and specialty care providers in a timely manner.
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.  Assist with training of new personnel. Participate in teaching students and residents in the techniques and processes unique to our specific clinical setting.
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care to our patients while also increasing our program’s effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education:

· Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.

· Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

· BLS required.

License

· Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.

· Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Desired Experience

· 1+ years of APP required with a background in pulmonology, oncology, or thoracic surgery strongly preferred

Job Hours

Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs
