The Morgan Arboretum is looking to hire a motivated and passionate individual who enjoy the outdoors for our Field Operations Assistant position.
The Morgan Arboretum is a 245 hectare forest reserve, situated on the western end of the island of Montreal in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and has been part of McGill University's Macdonald Campus since 1945. In addition to its teaching and research purposes, it is a recreational facility open to the public throughout the year. Our trail network allows for year-round walking and running, as well as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in season.
Primary Duties:
Maintenance Tasks:
Main responsibilities of this position are to work as with other students, staff and volunteers on various projects relating to maintenance of grounds, roads and trails, mapping, signage, vegetation control using power equipment, equipment maintenance.
Landscaping and regular garden maintenance.
Utilizing heavy equipment (i.e. Lawn tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters).
Refilling and cleaning bird feeders, cleaning recreation zones, benches and tables.
Help/ assist members or visitors with general questions or concerns.
Other tasks and projects as required.
Tour tasks:
Organize and lead nature based activities for kids ages 6-11.
Teach kids about our native fauna and flora.
Provide a hands on learning experience while maintaining a safe learning environment.
Comfortably handle and catch small snakes, insects and amphibians for educational purposes.
