Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Principal Architect for Workplace Technology Engineering is responsible for the design and operations of workplace solutions used globally by NBCUniversal employees and partners. The Principal Architect will play a leading role in the development of a technical architecture that supports workplace solutions that span across a portfolio of services including:

  • A/V conferencing solutions
  • Collaboration and workflow solutions based on Office 365
  • iOS, Mac and Windows device lifecycle management
  • Voice and unified communications
  • AWS cloud

The day-to-day role of this position is to be a technology advocate and drive the future of systems architecture and design across the portfolio. The core responsibilities include (but are not limited to) vetting vendor solutions, architecting and executing complex cross campus initiatives and playing a leading role as a technology expert across Workplace Technology Engineering. This role will also research new technologies, beta test, document and provide training to engineers across all sites on new products and processes, creating procedures and managing infrastructure improvements.  This Principal Solutions Architect will work across and lead collaboration with Engineering peers, as well as with Operations, Network, Cyber, and Security counterparts. This role will partner early, frequently and transparently to iterate on designs and architectures and identify opportunities to ease operational burdens, mitigate risks and enable scale for the business.

ORGANIZATION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Increase utilization of the enterprise standard productivity platforms that integrate seamlessly into end-user workplace experiences.
  • Deliver a standard, self-service video conferencing experience that supports a work-from-anywhere workforce.
  • Implement an always up-to-date Evergreen model with a common unified endpoint management platform, real-time device health analytics, and process automation.
  • Deliver intranet services that support a mobile work-from-anywhere workforce built on modern cloud infrastructure and mobile platforms.
  • Deliver a single cost-effective enterprise physical security platform focused on predictive maintenance through IoT.
  • Deliver a streamlined enterprise scale portfolio that focuses on large-scale services including space planning, work orders, building management, and desk booking.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Connecting Solution Engineering with Solution and Portfolio Architecture work to ensure sound roadmaps which deliver business value.
  • Leading the development of a scalable architecture that supports the organization’s strategic roadmap
  • Working with service delivery leads and business solution partners to support technology assessments.
  • Understanding NBCU business processes requirements by engaging with business partners at enterprise and division level.
  • Maintaining collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and technology teams.
  • Assisting the team in crafting adaptable, comprehensive, and feasible solutions by creating necessary blueprint documents for functional requirements and technical specifications
  • Leading end-to-end implementations plus engaging as solution architect simultaneously with other projects that are in progress.
  • Reviewing work performed by other team members as per established standards to ensure quality and consistency across the organization
  • Sharing expertise ensuring that teams are continuously improving and learning together to meet current and future engineering and architecture needs
  • Planning improvements and features with a 6 month view
  • Ensuring solution architecture diagrams are current
     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of architecture experience in end user technologies
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of security best practices
  • Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies and IT project management
  • In-depth knowledge of end user technologies and a demonstrated proficiency in new and emerging technologies.
