JOB TITLE:   

Assistant Manager, State Seed Certification Services

JOB PURPOSE:   

Provide project leadership and assist with directing the operational, financial, personnel and planning functions of the Seed Certification Service for the State of Wyoming.  Autonomously oversee and/or coordinate complex administrative tasks that substantially impact operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Oversee and/or perform complex administrative tasks that substantially impact operations within the department.
  • Oversee Foundation Seed Program to include budget planning and maintenance.
  • Provide project leadership; independently assist with coordinating the operational, financial, personnel and planning functions; serve as mediator with other University departments, external individuals and groups.
  • Research, conduct or respond to complicated inquiries and situations relative to the department; analyze and integrate statistical or other assistive data; prepare detailed reports and documentation.
  • May arrange or conduct symposia, conferences and meetings including design and implementation of agenda, selecting speakers/facilitators, publicity and marketing.
  • Oversee management of unit/program files and records; serve as primary resource person in interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with planning and budgetary projects relative to the department; may solicit and manage funds for research or related agreements.
  • Assist with establishing or revising policies, systems, methods and procedures; prepare related documentation including the design and implementation of computer programs, as appropriate. 
  • Map fields using ARC-GIS or similar software to support field inspections, long-term collection of data points for field history and weed infestations, and as a database of grower, field, variety and inspection activities.
  • Inspect seed crops in Wyoming, primarily the Big Horn Basin, in cooperation with other program staff depending on workload.
  • Identify, interview, and hire seasonal field inspectors and hourly staff, including completing all HR documentation. Provide supervision and training for seasonal/hourly staff.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: 2 years work-related experience
