About the role

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Appropriate Administrator and Lead, the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications supports the development, coordination, and delivery of sports information and media relations for the University’s athletic programs. The role includes assisting with the creation and distribution of communications, ensuring compliance with operational policies and procedures, and promoting the University’s athletic teams through media relations, digital content, and statistical reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content & Media Relations Support: Assist in the creation and distribution of press releases, newsletters, game notes, recaps, and social media posts.
  • Event Assistance: Assist with game-day operations by preparing rosters, programs, and flip cards.
  • Post-Event Coverage: Assist with post-game coverage by preparing box scores, updating websites, and distributing recaps.
  • Records and Archives: Collect, compile, and maintain statistical records for assigned sports.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of media relations, public affairs, and sports information. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information and produce content. Skill in following guidelines and providing input and feedback as required and applicable. Ability to analyze information and data as well as use reasoning to summarize into clear and succinct statements. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Computer skills to appropriately use technology (i.e., social media platforms) and relevant software as required. Must be willing to travel.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field. 

Physical Summary

Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,570 - $6,658 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
