About the role

Basic Function

The Printing Services Technician is responsible for working with Printing staff, operating a variety of wide format and offset print jobs. This role will assist with high-quality production of printed materials, maintenance of equipment, print inventory and supplies, and distribution of finished products. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable polices and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Coordinates and works with all Printing team members to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production processes.
  • Operates and works with the production process for wide format printing and offset printing ensuring optimal performance and print quality. 
  • Works with Printing Service Coordinator to assist with reports, supplies, inventory, and incoming job requests and tracking.
  • Maintains PC and Macintosh workstation hardware and provides technical assistance with print drivers and software-related issues.
  • Performs regular maintenance tasks on printing equipment including lubrication and replacing consumables. Troubleshoots and maintains all digital machinery such as folders, drill press and finishing equipment.  May diagnose technical issues and coordinates, schedules manufacturers or service technicians for any necessary repairs.
  • Assists with managing inventory of printing materials and supplies, placing orders as necessary to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Coordinates with clients and internal teams to understand project requirements.  Maintains open communications with clients regarding project status, proofs, and any issues that may arise.  Schedule and prioritize print jobs to ensure timely completion and delivery.
  • Monitors and tracks job progress, updating clients and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Keeps detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Coordinates the distribution and delivery of finished print products to clients or designated locations and ensures proper packaging and labeling of products for shipment.
  • Works with Print Services logistics such as transportation for delivery, including scheduling and tracking shipments, maintaining accurate records of print jobs, including job specifications, production times, and materials used.
  • Generate reports on production efficiency, material usage, and other key metrics.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
     

Education Requirement

High school diploma or GED is required. Associate degree is preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum two (2) years of printing experience with network digital publishing equipment, operating wide-format equipment, or offset printing equipment in a medium to large volume reproduction operation. 

Knowledge & Skills Required

Proficient with office software on PC and MAC.  Understanding of how to properly integrate PC and MAC software with high-speed digital equipment, publishing software and bindery equipment.  Proficient with file preparation, layout and design of artwork, color separation, font management, and various graphic software packages and electronic forms. Must be highly organized with excellent communication skills.
