Summary/Objective
Work with the Missouri Department of Conservation Exhibits Staff to create exhibit components. Projects include designing nature center exhibits, Graphic design for exhibit panels, banner design, researching images and art, creating interpretive signage, and some writing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Arts or a conservation-related field and at least two years of editing and/or graphic design experience, or equivalent.
- Applicants must submit a graphic design and/or exhibit portfolio with a resume to the Missouri Department of Conservation (samples will not be returned).
Essential Job Duties
- Ability to use design software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is essential.
- Create interpretive graphics for nature centers, portable exhibits, and wayside exhibit panels.
- Assist in designing three-dimensional exhibits and experiences for nature centers, regional offices, and fair facilities.
- Actively participate in the Exhibits Team to support Exhibits statewide and MDC staff.
- Work with cooperating agencies on partner projects.
- Assist with planning, setting up, and staffing state and regional fairs.
- Manage multiple tasks and adjust to shifting priorities in a collaborative environment.
- Ensure that products reflect the department’s mission, priorities, and internal/external stakeholder interests and needs.
- Some knowledge of natural resource concepts and practices is preferred.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Some overnight travel throughout the state to attend meetings, exhibit deliveries and installations, and setting up fairs.
- Requires a valid Missouri Driver’s License, a good driving record, and passing a drug test.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Non-Personal Interpretation, or related field.
- At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional graphic design experience.
- Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge to create production-ready exhibit designs using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design.
- Knowledge to design three-dimensional objects and exhibits.
- Knowledge to apply the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines to exhibit design.
- Ability to work with a variety of people in different capacities and communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Ability to use office equipment such as copier, multi-line phone system, scanner, and computer.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in standard office environment.
Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position up to 70% of the time.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Position self to access items on shelves, under desks or in high or low areas.
- Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
- Regularly lift up to 10 pounds, correctly lift up to 25 pounds.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
