Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position performs clinical nursing duties related to the following Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier) programs: Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), Tuberculosis (TB), Infectious Disease (HIV/AIDS), and Adult Health. Position requires the ability to work independently within scope of practice for described duties listed. Position coordinates daily clinic activities with Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Medical Doctor (MD) staff. This position is at risk for exposure to respiratory and bloodborne pathogens; requires annual TB assessment which may include Purified Protein Derivative (PPD), TSPOT or QuantiFERON. Recommended to have up-to-date vaccination for vaccine preventable diseases. Continuously demonstrates the Department’s ICARE values. This position reports to the Community Health Nursing Consultant.
Provides contraceptive services to women attending DOH-Collier County clinics including review of methods, method initiation, supply and pregnancy testing. Consulting with Advanced Registered Nurse Practioner (ARNP) as necessary. Provides HIV/STD counseling, testing, and preventative education following Department of Health (DOH) guidelines and triage clients who walk in. Assist in communicable disease contact investigation (TB, STD). Works with Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner assisting with care, examination, procedures and treatment of clients. When necessary, coordinate referrals under the guidance of the medical provider. Assists in the collection of health history (vital signs, symptoms, and complaints). Administers medication in the clinic under clinician’s orders and or following DOH and Title X guidelines. Administers Adult vaccines under CDC and Florida Department of Health guidelines. Evaluates individual needs and makes appropriate referrals.
Performs phlebotomy and other laboratory functions to include specimen procurement and appropriate handling and shipping of specimens. Initiates follow-up on abnormal lab results for all clients, provides case management with initial contacts, reminders and coordination of care for all clients. Manages and orders vaccines while maintaining accurate and adequate inventory.
Assist in routine function of clinic through stocking or supplies, maintaining charts, working within the Health Management System (HMS) system, and assisting with reports as necessary. Maintains and operates the autoclave for sterilizing of medical and surgical instruments. Maintains organization and cleanliness of clinic area.
Participates in community health events. Performs other duties and adjusts schedule as necessary as assigned by supervisor.
