The Battery Design Team is responsible for the design from concept generation through production release.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a Battery Design Engineer in Costa Mesa, Ca. with previous ownership of assembly design and validation process through a complete product design cycle from early architecture to production.

 

 

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

      • Own hardware design from concept generation through production release
      • Design with the customer in mind for safety, reliability, and ease of use
      • Use first principles physics as a basis for every decision and use data driven decision making
      • Lead design reviews, run analysis, visit vendors, define and execute hardware test plans
      • Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production
      • Travel to test sites as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
      • 7+ years of mechanical experience in a professional experience
      • CAD skills (any platform) and ability to make high quality engineering drawings that meet common industry standards
      • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of general battery safety for handling, storage, assembly, operation, etc.
      • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills and prototype building to support the design iteration process
      • Previous ownership of assembly design and validation process through a complete product design cycle from early architecture to production
      • Experience with component design to support machining, casting, sheet metal, injection molding processes in various production quantities
      • Ability to define and direct required analysis and testing to collect specific data needed to drive design direction
      • Demonstrated experience deriving component requirements from system requirements and highlighting any gaps, as well as pushing back on requirements when it is the right thing for the product.
      • Exposure to design of structural/mechanical systems, lithium-ion battery systems preferred.
      • Experience working with high energy systems, high power systems, and/or high voltage systems preferred.
      • Ability to influence others, build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to accomplish business objectives.
      • Ability to assume personal accountability, address limitations, exhibits honesty and respect towards others, the company and oneself.
      • Demonstrated ability to work independently, assessing business needs and using problem solving skills to address challenges.
      • Demonstrated ability to serve and actively contribute as an active team member on the immediate team and the larger organization. Ability to support the team effort with tasks outside of your standard scope
      • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Experience in an immersive technical project (collegiate project teams or professional settings)
      • Experience in NX/Teamcenter
      • Prior experience working with battery systems, BMS, and electrical systems would be preferred, but is not required.
      • Strong demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.
      • Knowledge of high voltage and low voltage systems and the impact to mechanical design and material selection
      • General appreciation for Design for Manufacturing / Assembly / Cost / Safety and ability to implement into components and assemblies as well as defined processes.

 

US Salary Range$120,000$180,000 USDUS Hourly Range $120,000$180,000 USD
