The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Sr. Structural Engineer II to join our team in one of our Akron, Columbus, Baltimore or Pensacola offices.  

 

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the design of new building structures as well as structural alterations, renovations, and additions to existing facilities. You will manage multiple projects with general supervision and contribute to larger project teams under the guidance of senior technical leadership. Your responsibilities will include structural evaluations, calculations, design documentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

 

This position requires collaboration with engineers, architects, clients, and contractors to deliver coordinated, constructible solutions. You will resolve design and construction-phase issues, maintain project schedules and budgets, and continue developing your technical and leadership skills.

 

Project types include: Military/Department of Defense facilities and bases, Federal, Justice, K-12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Hospitality, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Cultural & Historic, and Residential.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Conduct preliminary and detailed structural analysis and design, ensuring compliance with local and national building codes and standards.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of structural engineering principles and effectively communicate technical ideas and solutions to team members and clients.
  • Design, analyze, and specify structural systems including steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber for both new buildings and renovations/additions to existing structures.
  • Lead or support an engineering team in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering all structural systems for the project.
  • Provide construction administration services and collaborate with contractors to address any construction issues that arise during the construction phase.
  • Prepare detailed condition assessment reports on the condition of existing structures and systems.
  • Coordinate with PRIME AE’s Architectural & MEP divisions to ensure integrated design and functionality.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers within the Structural department, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge-sharing.
  • Review designs prepared by others as part of PRIME AE’s QA/QC process.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or Equivalent; Masters preferred.
  • PE license required; SE license preferred.
  • 8+ years of structural design experience in consulting engineering. 
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software, including Revit, RISA, and Enercalc.
  • Experience in designing federal, public sector, education, wastewater treatment plants, and restoration projects.
  • Must be able to follow and properly apply market specific guidelines, the practices and policies of the associated local and building codes, discipline, divisions and firm.
  • Excellent organizational skills and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to independently manage and design projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage deadline-driven tasks while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel for occasional pre-determined, scheduled site visits.
