Position Overview
With so much taking shape at Yahoo and an immense opportunity to share our story, the Yahoo Communications team is looking for a creative and energetic intern to support the work to promote the company’s brand and protect its reputation during our transformation journey. This individual will have the opportunity to participate in projects with several cross-functional teams. This person reports to the Corporate Communications Director.
You will have real responsibility, outstanding training, and the chance to learn from the best through 1:1 mentorship in a small team setting. As an intern, you will gain valuable work experience while developing your skills and establishing a track record to set you up for a potential full-time position after graduation.
During the course of your internship, you will take part in an exciting lineup of intern events and engage in meaningful projects that significantly impact the success of our businesses. At the end of your summer, you will have the opportunity to present your work to our leadership and network with our hiring managers.
Responsibilities of the Corporate Communications Intern
The Communications Intern will work a wide range of deliverables to support the team’s work to tell Yahoo’s story. You will help us strategize and think outside the box with the goal of reaching our audiences in new places.
Draft messaging, briefing docs, press pitches, and social content (LinkedIn) to support communications campaigns
Monitor industry trends and news to ensure that our message effectively reaches our target audience
Develops media lists, monitors news coverage and assists with press releases and media outreach activities.
Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication campaigns
You will ensure that our brand message is clear, consistent, and engaging across all channels
Qualifications
- Previous experience in communications and/or public relations settings
Pursuing a college degree with a major in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
Strong written communication skills with an emphasis on copywriting and editing
Ability to maintain full confidentiality on sensitive topics
A pulse on current culture and trends; experience managing and drafting social media content a plus
Flexible approach to working as part of a global team
Curiosity, empathy and a driving desire to learn
Someone with a sense of humor who is ready to roll up their sleeves and help support our growing function
Yahoo Internship Program Requirements
You are actively enrolled in Bachelor's program and have a strong record of academic achievement
You are able to complete an 8-12 week internship over the summer
Knowledge of and comfortable working within Google Suite
Organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize projects based on deadlines
Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
