ABSC is seeking a Data Scientist (Level II) to support the CDAO. From machine learning software development to program and project management, the CDAO is looking for world-class talent driven to tackle tough challenges at the intersection of national security and cutting-edge AI technology. Work is hybrid, some work to be performed on-site in Northern, Virginia, no more than 2-3 days per week on-site, with the remainder of the work performed remotely.
The Department of Defense’s (DoD) CDAO is responsible for the acceleration of the DoD’s adoption of data, analytics, and AI to generate decision advantage across, from the boardroom to the battlefield.
Stood up in February 2022 by integrating the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), Defense Digital Services (DDS), the Chief Data Officer, and the enterprise platform Advana into one organization, the office of the CDAO is building a strong foundation for data, analytic, and AI-enabled capabilities to be developed and fielded at scale.
The Data Scientist will support the CDAO's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in providing strategic awareness, advice and expertise related to technology trends in support of the acceleration of the adoption of data, analytics, and AI across the DoD. The SETA support focuses on advancing CDAO’s AI/ML and data-driven initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:

Support development of insider threat strategy in support of protecting CDAO technical offerings; balance short-term wins with long-term investments to progressively mature CDAO’s defenses against insider threats.

Lead coordination of policy and strategy related to insider threats with industry partners and other DoD components.

Lead exploration of data sources that are relevant to measuring, identifying, and defending against insider threats.

Provide technical leadership in developing capabilities to detect insider threats among large user communities, leveraging combination of statistical, classical machine learning, and deep learning methods.

Write documentation about CDAO’s strategic approach to insider threat defense and how it fits within the broader DoD insider threat ecosystem.
Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field plus 4 years experience, or Masters Degree in Computer Science with 2 years experience.
Required Skills/Experience:

A minimum of an Active Secret level security clearance is required.

Experience with data science techniques, classical machine learning, and deep learning for anomaly detection.

Experience with Jupyter, Spark, and either Tensorflow or PyTorch.

Previous relevant technical leadership experience.

Exemplary technical writing skills.

Prior experience in insider threat detection, fraud detection, or anti-abuse engineering is preferred.

A traditional background in cybersecurity is not required.
