Interim Instructional Labs Administrator – Woodshop/Digital Fabrication

This position will support SACD students and faculty who need to utilize SACD Woodshop/Digital Fabrication Lab resources. Duties will include training others in standard shop safety protocols and practices, supervising lab support staff, maintaining lab equipment, managing the lab supplies inventory, coordinating architecture building set-ups and breakdowns at the beginning and end of semesters, and liaising with the USF Office of Environmental Health and Safety, the Physical Plant, and other campus entities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of professional and safety practices associated with analogue and digital shop/fabrication tools and processes.
- Maintain and administer lab safety protocols for students and faculty.
- Ensure all lab equipment is calibrated and in safe operating condition.
- Instruct SACD students on proper and safe operation of lab equipment and techniques in the completion of projects.
- Consult with SACD faculty on demonstration and lab setup needs to support SACD class work.
- Manages, with support of the SACD Director, compliance of SACD faculty and administration in completing USF-mandated safety workshops.
- Coordinate the schedule of lab use.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the performance of labs support staff.
- Manage the lab budget in consultation with the SACD Director and Office Manager.
- Evaluate need for supplies, maintain inventory system, and order laboratory and teaching supplies as needed.
- Assess, propose and execute initiatives associated with lab equipment and facilities upgrades. In consultation with SACD Director, prepare bids and/or requisitions associated with new lab equipment purchases.
- Manage, in consultation with SACD Director and Office Manager and with a team of student employees, each start of semester building clean-up and design lab/studio preparations for new semester, end of semester studio clean-out in preparation for Fall and Spring Open House Exhibitions, and space set-ups as needed and requested by the SACD Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of analogous (e.g. table saw, planer, jointer, lathe, and other various hand and power tools) and digital (e.g. CNC routers, laser cutters, 3D printers) equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in team or supervisory settings.
- Master’s or Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g. architecture, design, art, theatre, built environment) preferred.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
