About the role

Job Description

The New York City Law Department is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Chief of the Contracts and Real Estate Division. The Contracts and Real Estate Division provides counseling to City agencies on the processes that govern City transactions, such as procurements and real estate transactions; works on special projects, mainly as primary counsel on complex transactions; and reviews City transactional documents. Recent projects have included advising on the City’s East Side Coastal Resiliency Project, advising on the City’s procurement of energy and energy related products and the negotiation, and drafting of Project Labor Agreements. Under the supervision of the Chief of the Division, the Deputy Chief oversees the work of the division, managing approximately 13 attorneys, with responsibility for all matters handled by the division.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at least 10 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to the practice of law in New York State. They should have substantial transactional experience particularly with City contracting, real estate and procurement matters. Candidates should demonstrate strong legal writing and analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, together with a history of successful supervision and management of attorneys and legal support professionals.
