PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS IN MICROBIOLOGY

2025-2026

Biology Department seeks Instructors to teach the following classes:

Microbiology for Health Professionals (Fall 2025): A sophomore level 3-credit microbiology course designed to prepare future health professionals. This course is a foundational course that covers basic physiological and biochemical activities of bacteria and viruses with an emphasis on virulence factors, mechanisms of infection, the use of anti-viral and antibiotic drugs, the host immune response, and efficacy of vaccination strategies. Enrollment cap is 80.

Class times:

MWF 1-1:50pm

Microbiology for Health Professionals Laboratory (Fall 2025 and Spring 2026): A sophomore level laboratory course that teaches aseptic technique, microbial cultivation and growth characteristic, bacterial isolation and identification of unknown species, and testing of antimicrobial effectiveness.  Up to a total of six sections of 16 students with up to three sections taught contemporaneously with departmental TA support.

Class time:

Friday: 11-11:50 pm and 2-3:50 pm

Part time faculty receive a competitive salary on a per course basis.   In addition, part time faculty in the Biology Department have shared office space to prepare lectures and meet with students.  Responsibilities include:

·         prepare and deliver course lectures at the assigned course time

·         prepare discussion material for the graduate TAs

·         write and grade examinations (with graduate TA support)

·         be available for 2-3 office hours per week

·         write letters of recommendation when appropriate

Qualifications

Qualifications:  Instructors teaching lecture courses must have an MS, PhD, or other advanced degree in an appropriate field of study. We will consider post-doctoral fellows seeking university teaching experience.
