Essential Functions:  

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing and providing therapy for any of the following patients: neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescent and young adults, and adults who demonstrate disorders of communication and swallowing. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the care of all assigned cases. In consultation with other disciplines/professionals, selects outcome goals and skilled interventions. Effectively uses agency and community resources, to achieve patient and family independence with patient care in the patient's residence.

Assessment Skills:  

• Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services to patients who present with disorders of communication and swallowing.
• Evaluates and provides treatment for developmental disorders, clinical dysphagia, Modified Barium Swallow study, speaking valve and oral motor disorders.

• Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services.
• Ensures evaluations are timely and accurate.

Treatment Skills:  

• Provides treatment to patients referred for Speech Therapy 
• Able to provide Speech Therapy services to patients with a variety of diagnoses.

• Uses appropriate strategies based on patient’s age, diagnosis, evidence, and best practices.

Documentation:  

• Documents results of Speech Therapy services in the EMR. 
• Documentation is completed within timeframes designated by the hospital or program. 
• Documentation and charges accurately reflect time spent with the patient.

Job Qualifications:  

• Louisiana state license to practice as a Speech Pathologist required.
• Certification of Clinical Competency by ASHA or must be Clinical Fellow (new graduate in first year) required. Clinical Fellow must obtain ASHA certification in 1 year.
• Master's degree in communication Disorders required.   
• Experience preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS required.
