About the role

Job Title : Physician Assistant (PA) - Specialty Job Summary :

 

The Trauma PA will assist in the care of highly acute patients in an inpatient setting. The PA will work in collaboration with the Attending Physician to diagnose and treat acute medical conditions. PA will examine patients, review medical data, and rely on their education and training to accomplish responsibilities listed below. The Trauma PA will be expected to work with autonomy and may be asked to lead and direct others. Coverage is 24/7, 12 hour shifts. Day shift is 7a-7p and night shift is 7p-7a.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Provide comprehensive care for trauma patients including, but not limited to:

 

  • H&P/Consultation services
  • Physical examination
  • Comprehensive chart review
  • Complex medical decision making
  • Daily rounding on ICU as well as surgical floor patients in addition to responding to trauma activations
  • Provide medical management of patients such as ordering diagnostic tests, labs, imaging studies, medications, and nutrition as appropriate.
  • Perform chest tube insertion, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line insertion, endotracheal intubation, and other bedside procedures as necessary.
  • Perform first assist duties as needed for operative procedures. 
  • Responding to calls for hospitalized and discharged patients
  • Collaboration with other services and nursing staff
  • Respond to Code Blue/rapid response calls
  • Provide interpretation of diagnostic tests
  • Coordinate and execute patient discharge collaborating with nursing staff and other service lines as appropriate
  • Patient, family, and team member education
  • Adhere to mutually agreed upon Clinical Practice Guidelines/Scope of Practice
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the appropriate Scope of Practice

 

  • Attend trauma department meetings and other departmental activities as directed.

 

Required Licensure/Certification:

 

Physician Assistant License from Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). 

 

BLS (Basic Life Support)

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

 

Minimum Education for PA: Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences. See licensure requirements
