General Summary:

The Delivery Director plays a critical senior leadership role within Unum’s Grow organization, accountable for the successful delivery of complex, multi-year initiatives that directly support the creation, enhancement, and modernization of Unum’s product portfolio. This role goes beyond delivery oversight and requires proven experience leading people managers and building leadership capability across multiple teams.

This leader is responsible for shaping delivery strategy at the portfolio level, setting clear expectations for execution, and ensuring alignment across leaders, teams, and business partners. You will partner closely with senior business and technology stakeholders to ensure product workflows are delivered with consistency, clarity, and high quality, while developing strong delivery leaders who can operate effectively at scale.

In addition to driving outcomes, the Delivery Director provides organizational leadership by anticipating risks, removing systemic impediments, and establishing the structures, governance, and operating rhythms required for high-visibility, high-impact work. This includes leading prioritization and capacity discussions, validating resource strategies, reinforcing Agile delivery practices, and holding leaders accountable for predictable, measurable delivery.

This role is designed for a seasoned people leader who has experience leading managers, coaching leaders through complexity, and scaling delivery practices across multiple teams. You will foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence, ensuring leaders and teams are empowered, aligned, and equipped to support t, e long-term goals of the Grow portfolio.

Job Specifications:

  • Demonstrated experience leading people managers, including managers of delivery teams, with a proven ability to coach, develop, and retain leadership talent

  • Experience setting direction and accountability across multiple teams or delivery organizations, not just individual contributors

  • Strong IT background with a track record of leading complex, multi-year initiatives in fast-paced, matrixed environments

  • Proven success driving transformation, delivery maturity, and organizational change at scale

  • Strong understanding of Agile/Lean leadership principles and experience applying them consistently across teams and leaders

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive-level presentation skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and align leaders around a shared vision

  • Strategic and systems-level thinking, supported by strong planning, prioritization, and execution discipline

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (preferred) or equivalent technical experience

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in IT delivery, including leadership roles with direct people-management responsibility

  • Proven ability to lead high-visibility programs with tight timelines, complex dependencies, and significant cross-functional coordination

  • Ability to apply broad business and technology insights, including internal and external trends, to inform delivery and investment decisions

  • Leadership style that promotes accountability, resilience, innovation, and a sustainable pace while empowering leaders to make informed decisions and take smart risks
