Position Purpose

Under general supervision, the Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and facility equipment in accordance with proper safety procedures and industry best practices. The Lead Maintenance Technician provides critical support of production schedules ensuring that customer delivery commitments are met.

Functional Responsibility

  • Provides hands-on support, assigns daily tasks, ensures employees have proper tools and equipment, and monitors output
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
  • Ensures clear communication amongst the team; follows-up on assignments to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Informs supervisor of staffing needs
  • Ensures employees conduct themselves in a safe manner and that work areas are kept clean to prevent safety hazards; immediately reports safety issues and concerns to management
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Communicates closely with supervisor regarding  employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations and advises supervisor of any infractions; assigns and monitors employee breaks and lunches and provides backup relief
  • Provides timely feedback to employees on a daily basis and informs supervisor of team/individual performance, recognition, training needs, deficiencies, etc.

Essential Duties

  • Actively trains technicians in duties including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of production machines, ensuring completed work is entered into CMMS (computer maintenance management system)
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools
  • Responsible for contractors and other departments activities such as; painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.), various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, refrigerators, evaporative coolers, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to maintain a safe, comfortable working environment
  • Inspects vehicles, equipment, buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using a pre‐established check sheet
  • Sets the example by following all safety rules and practices; ensures employees use proper protective equipment and have a safe work environment, collaborates with other stakeholders as it relates to tools/equipment, training, work environment, identifying potential issues or other related safety items, as well as being accountable for ensuring maintenance personnel follow the same safety rules and practices
  • Performs technician duties including but not limited to; mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting to detect faulty operations, offers technical solutions to operations management, records work activities, parts or materials used, and orders or requisitions new parts/materials as necessary within certain limits
  • Installs and maintains production equipment and facility equipment using good judgment and problem-solving skills to diagnose problems, determine best method to correct them and is responsible for repairing equipment correctly the first time, makes recommendations for facility, equipment, and process improvements
  • Performs and communicates with affected operations of scheduled preventive maintenance, service on equipment and plant facilities including all active and reactive work request throughout the day, replacing or repairing parts, testing, making adjustments, and verifying results
  • Participate in, searches for and executes against continuous improvement opportunities and initiatives within and beyond the maintenance function by measuring activities, entering data and ensuring the accuracy of the data
