We are committed to providing childcare products that exceed our customers’ expectations in innovation, quality, design, and delivery. We are seeking a Product Engineer II to join our expanding team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering & Quality, the Product Engineer II is a hands-on, lead for our Child Craft and Foundations product lines.
In this role, you will lead the development of new products from initial ideation through production start. Additionally, you will be responsible for the documentation, sample testing, factory selection, launch, and maintenance of wood retail products. While there is no direct people management expectation, there is plenty of opportunity to mentor junior team members.
Responsibilities:
At Foundations, there is limitless opportunity and plenty of room to grow. The following describes some of the core activities you will perform:
- Document and manage the entire product development process. This may be full SolidWorks documentation including top-level specifications as deemed necessary by product type. This will be your responsibility to determine what is necessary based on industry and internal requirements.
- Manage and prioritize all assigned product development projects. (may also oversee outside resources when needed)
- Manage product development activities with suppliers (tool build, sampling, costing, etc.)
- Evaluate initial samples and production start-up procedures.
- Perform consumer and competitive research.
- Generate concepts.
- Implement QA requirements for each product.
- Knowledge of safety standards and ensure products comply.
- Maintain project timelines throughout the development process.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following:
- BSME or BSMET (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology) degree or equivalent required.
- 5+ years of work experience related to consumer product development.
- Proficient at 2D and 3D CAD documentation using SolidWorks.
- Must have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to handle multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines/schedules.
- Positive, can-do attitude.
- Able to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting aggressive deadlines/schedules.
- Comfortable and confident in cross-collaborating with internal teams, outside vendors, and customers.
- Fundamental knowledge of metal, wood, and plastic materials as well as knowledge of the processing and fabrication methods used in manufacturing those materials is strongly desired.
- Willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as needed, to work with development partners and suppliers (~20%).
- CPG experience is a plus.
- Portfolio and/or prior work samples are required.
