Senior Software Engineer
Alarm.comAbout the role
About the Opportunity:
Do you have a deep knowledge of frontend or fullstack development and a passion for building products that make a real impact? Are you looking for a team that values modern best practices, critical thinking, and the chance to collaborate across engineering and product disciplines? Join Alarm.com and help us build for the future. This team is a mixture of pure frontend and frontend-focused fullstack engineers, working closely with engineers of all experience levels, product managers, UX, and business leaders to shape our platform.
What You’ll Do:
- Be a key technical contributor on a small, collaborative, full-stack team—with special focus on the frontend (React, Ember, Angular, etc.), as well as contribution to backend code as needed.
- Design, plan, and implement high-impact projects: take ambiguous problems and drive them from inception and design (estimating timelines, resources, architecture choices) through implementation and delivery.
- Foster technical excellence by sharing your expertise, conducting code reviews, and offering thoughtful feedback to peers.
- Apply strong knowledge of frontend development patterns and frameworks—even beyond our current stack
- Take ownership of projects and features, including leading new initiatives, debugging complex issues, and participating in technical discovery with the team.
- Work closely with Product Management, QE, and UX—collaborating to deliver seamless end-to-end experiences for both internal and external customers.
- Champion best practices in testing, code quality, and process improvements—helping us work smarter
- Investigate and experiment with new technologies and methodologies to continuously improve our platform, our products, and our team.
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
- 5+ years professional experience in software engineering, with significant time building, owning, and delivering frontend applications (React, Ember, Angular, or similar).
- Demonstrable strength in frontend code, architecture, frameworks, and design patterns; able to scope and lead projects in this space.
- Hands-on experience being a major contributor to project teams, owning project areas end-to-end—timeline and resource estimates, tech stack recommendations, and architecture through implementation.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and critical thinking/problem-solving skills, from high-level design down to implementation details.
- High motivation for collaboration with engineers of all experience levels; interest in supporting and mentoring more junior team members as a peer.
- Comfortable with code reviews, technical planning, and participating in cross-functional discussions.
- Professional experience that may also include backend and fullstack development (object-oriented languages, web APIs, etc.), but with a clear passion and track record in frontend engineering in particular.
- Ability to work independently and as a team, communicating effectively with fellow engineers, Product Management, UX, QE, and others across the business.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Bonus Points For:
- Prior experience as a project lead or taking initiative in technical delivery (without formal management).
- Interest and/or experience identifying team/process/product challenges and proactively recommending improvements.
- Familiarity with UX principles, Figma or similar design systems, and willingness to work closely with designers.
- Exposure to object-oriented backend programming (C# a plus), TypeScript, and/or database design.
