Other locations may be considered based on candidate alignment and business need.
The Contract Manager is a people leadership role within Medtronic’s Medical Surgical portfolio, responsible for leading a team of contract analysts and supporting the development and execution of customer agreements. This role partners closely with Sales and cross-functional stakeholders to translate commercial deal structures into compliant, executable contracts that enable business outcomes.
This position balances team leadership, contracting expertise, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality contract execution and alignment with organizational priorities.
A Day in the Life
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of ~8 contract analysts across varying experience levels
- Oversee the end-to-end contract lifecycle, including drafting, redlining, negotiation support, execution, and administration
- Partner with Sales teams to translate negotiated deal terms into structured, customer-ready contracts
- Review contract terms to ensure alignment with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications
- Support contract-related activities including proposal preparation, bid development, and contract negotiation
- Evaluate contract components such as pricing, delivery schedules, and performance requirements for accuracy and completeness
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual risks, obligations, and rights
- Maintain and analyze contract data and documentation to support decision-making and historical tracking
- Drive process consistency and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in contracting workflows
People Leadership & Scope
- Directly manage a team of contract analysts (typically 6–8+ employees)
- Responsible for performance management, coaching, development, and engagement
- Establish team priorities and ensure alignment to departmental and business objectives
- Lead through others—achieving goals through team execution rather than individual contribution
- Support team members in navigating complex contracting scenarios and stakeholder interactions
Role Scope & Impact
- Provides tactical and operational leadership within the contracting function
- Establishes and executes operational plans aligned to business needs
- Decisions may impact customer satisfaction, deal timelines, and resource allocation
- Contributes to process improvements and may recommend changes to contracting practices
- Operates in a complex, fast-paced environment requiring strong judgment and problem-solving
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience (or 3+ with advanced degree) in contracting, legal operations, commercial operations, or a related field
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting or leading contract development and negotiation processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, or influence others
- Experience with contract drafting, redlining, and deal structuring
- Familiarity with CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) tools
- Experience working with Salesforce and/or Excel-based processes
- Exposure to pricing, quoting, or commercial analytics
- Continuous improvement experience (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
