Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Histotechnician.

As a Histotechnician at MercyOne you will perform a variety of histology laboratory procedures used to produce tissue slides, which aids the pathologist in diagnosis and recommended treatment.

• Performs all steps in the preparation of tissue for diagnosis by a pathologist.  Examine tissue structures and characteristics as appropriate for patient age to include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.  

• Performs preventative maintenance and basic trouble shooting of instrumentation and equipment. 

• Performs all steps in the recycling of reagents.  

• Files blocks and slides. 

• Assists with selection of new instruments or method evaluation, implementation, and training. 

• Assists and supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives. 

• Utilizes LEAN principles/productivity standards. 

• Trains new employees. 

• Maintains supply inventory. 

• Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software. 

• Rotates call.  

Schedule: Full Time Days

​General Requirements:

• Completion of an approved histotechnician program OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND one year full-time acceptable experience in histopathology under the supervision of a pathologist.  

• Certification as a Histotechnician HT (ASCP) is preferred.  

• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.  

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  

• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.  

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory standards preferred.
