About the role

The Medical Assistant is a key member of our clinical team and provides top notch service to our patients and team members. This position supports our prescribing clinicians, patients, and office operations with a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and timeliness.  

Reports to: Clinic Office Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical:  

  • Serving as a central clinician resource, supporting prescribing clinicians across the market by:
  • Triaging incoming message requests and either acting on them or forwarding on to the treating clinician
  • Coordinating medication refills directly with pharmacies
  • Calling pharmacies and clarifying any medication refill or PA problems
  • Processing Prior Authorization (PA) requests in collaboration with clinicians
  • Calling insurance to obtain/verify pharmacy benefits informationand check status of PA requests 
  • Sending medication refill, change of medication and medication clarification request to clinicians
  • Triage patient messages and calls about side effects from medications and forward to clinicians as appropriate
  • Triaging patient messages and calls to reschedule / schedule / cancel appointments and responding as appropriate (complete request or forward on to front desk / central operations team)
  • Serving as a local in-clinic resource:
  • Collecting patient vitals (HT, WT, BP, RR and temperature) and documenting in EMR
  • Collecting medication history and allergies (to medications, foods and other that may apply) 
  • Inventory medication samples as per company policy 

Lab (not currently applicable, but may be in the future)

  • Collect blood / check swab specimens and document in EMR
  • Ship specimens to LabCorp
  • Order lab supplies as needed
  • Inventory of lab (check for expired supply or medication samples)
  • Maintain cleanliness of lab
  • Upload lab results to patient chart

Additional Duties:

  • Use, protect, and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Support front office operations and fill in at front desk as needed

 

Job Requirements & Skills:

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, or relevant experience
  • 1 year experience in an outpatient setting preferred
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
  • High level of professionalism in all aspects of work and enjoy working in a team-based environment
  • Strong, professional communication skills (verbally and written) – must be timely with strong follow through
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of integrity, humility, and a positive attitude
  • Must be flexible and comfortable with working in an evolving/growth organization
  • Must be willing and able to travel between clinics each week (within a given market)

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able effectively communicate over the phone.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Hourly Pay Range: $22-27 per hour DOE
