ABOUT THE ROLE

The Associate Manager, Packaging Engineer - Design to Value (DTV) will lead cost savings idea creation through multiple tools and process participation and leadership, input to a robust pipeline of savings, and lead projects to deliver cost savings goals across multiple years for future sufficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Partner with cross functional stakeholders to develop the pipeline, identify new sources of value, and cost savings opportunities across portfolios, categories, and regions

  • Support procurement sourcing and negotiation strategies through assessment of secondary qualification and optimization opportunities, by leading cross-functional teams through DTV ideation processes.

  • Develop facilitation and leadership skills from leading or supporting DTV ideation tools (ideation, workshop, teardown, etc.) across multiple platforms and BUs to successfully create idea funnels and future year robust pipelines

  • Support best practice sharing and idea brainstorming within each BU to drive broader scale of savings initiatives and speed to market

  • Deliver a robust pipeline of ideas for cost savings within each BU, with an emphasis on the Lifestyle Brands business.

Lead Technical Development and Qualification of packaging formulation changes

  • Lead the technical development of modified formulations on cross-functional teams in support of value-add improvements.  

  • Conduct lab scale experiments to demonstrate parity of alternative materials and support the scale-up, trial plans, and manufacturing qualification for newly qualified ingredients

Apply chemical sciences and chemistry principles to deliver robust cost savings pipelines:

  • Understand the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients.

  • Provide innovative ideas, expertise, and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach.

  • Scientific curiosity and ability to utilize available external resources (patent literature, suppliers, etc.) to identify applicable new technologies and bring those technologies in-house.

  • Write and review procedures, test protocols, and specifications needed to support product development activities for new formulas and packages.

Manages multiple, simultaneous projects, with simple to moderate supply chain and technical complexity, with a primary focus on packaging changes

  • Execute qualification and validation of optimized packaging components and alternate decoration methods (bottles, triggers, labels, shrink sleeves, screen-printing, etc) to deliver cost savings by conducting experiments to demonstrate parity of alternative materials and support the scale-up, trial plans, and manufacturing qualification for qualified components

  • As Project Manager, lead global cross functional project teams, or serve as GSC Lead on project teams to ensure project timeline and key deliverables are completed for commercialization and launch of cost savings projects

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date cost savings estimates for assigned projects in PWA and C$AVE

  • Track project progress against milestones, issue status reports, and escalate risks/breakdowns as necessary to appropriate cross-functional sponsors

  • Provide innovative product and packaging ideas, expertise, and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of packaging, plant-scale filling and scale-up experience in cleaning, personal care, or related products field

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
