About the role

Under the general or direct supervision of the collaborating physician, the Physician's Assistant (PA) will perform the following duties and be further guided by the specific Delineation of Privileges. The PA will work closely with a board-certified Urogynecologist to provide comprehensive care to women with pelvic floor disorders, and other gynecologic conditions such as pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, and advanced endometriosis. This position offers a blend of outpatient clinic care, pre- and post-operative management, and high-volume surgical assisting consisting of robotic and vaginal surgery.

  1. Assist in the operating room as the collaborating surgeon’s first surgical assistant. 
  2. Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, patient education, and follow-up visits. 
  3. Conduct comprehensive patient evaluation including history-taking, physical exams, and diagnostic assessments for urogynecologic/gynecologic conditions under direct supervision of the collaborating physician. 
  4. Assist with in-office procedures such as urodynamics, cystoscopy, pessary management, bladder instillations and catheterizations. 
  5. Perform hospital rounding on post-operative patients as needed. 
  6. Perform inpatient and emergency department consults under supervision of the collaborating physician. 
  7. Perform triage process (in person and on phone) to assist patients in obtaining timely and appropriate care and appointments. Consult with others on the healthcare team as appropriate. 
  8. Develop treatment plans in conjunction with the collaborating physician to provide optimal patient medical management. Orders laboratory tests, imaging studies, diagnostic studies and other diagnostic procedures 
  9. Provide counseling on treatment options, surgical procedures, post operative care and conservative management of pelvic floor disorders and benign gynecologic conditions. 
  10. Prescribe medications under the direction of the collaborating physician. 
  11. Independently provide Physician Assistant services to patient/family etc. including education, counseling, medication management, and general health care instructions. Act as a liaison between patient, family, provider, medical facility or other agencies involved with the patient. Serve as a patient advocate to resolve concerns or complaints. 
  12. Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and pelvic floor physical therapists for comprehensive patient care. 
  13. Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and non-specialty meetings, conferences. Maintains professional credentials and education necessary for professional licensure. 
  14. Document all aspects of patient care provided in an appropriate and timely manner and within requirements of the department or facility. 
  15. Meet all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. 
  16. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. 
  17. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient education programs
