Responsible for the implementation of hospital services such as donor development, strategic planning, relationship management and delivery of educational programs in assigned hospitals. Also, responsible for on call responsibilities pertaining to supporting MTN donor activities by offering families the opportunity for donation, acquiring medical/social histories, initiating donor management, and providing support for all donation processes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
HOSPITAL SERVICES
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of the organ and tissue donation process and donor criteria included DCD and brain death.
- Skilled in written and verbal communication considering perspective of audience to achieve purpose and goals.
- Skilled in developing and delivering presentations to large groups with ease and confidence.
- Develops unique, effective annual strategic hospital plans/strategies for assigned hospital(s).
- Ability to gather and analyze relevant hospital data to identify critical issues and trends, including mortality data.
- Maintains effective working relationships with hospital contacts and knowledge of hospital structure, inter-relationships between departments and functions.
- Maintains knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations and industry guidelines related to the donation and authorization process while visible in assigned hospital to be seen as the donation expert.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently with complex hospital structures in achieving plans/goals.
- Ability to identify, generate and share best practices and experiences with staff, ability to turn best practices into programs that can be shared system-wide and/or industry-wide.
- Organizes and leads Donor Advisory Council with hospital stakeholders to review outcomes, identify and work on improvement efforts and celebrate successes.
- Actively participates in key hospital meetings and committees as MTN representative.
- Provides professional support in difficult donor case situations by diplomatically diffusing intense situations and interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to hold impactful and routine After Action Reviews with key physicians, hospital leaders and frontline healthcare staff.
- Participates in rounding on open MTN referrals to assess donation potential and plan for donation discussions.
- Participates in onboarding new physicians and residents to organ donation process and provides ongoing physician education.
FAMILY SERVICES
- Maintains an on-call schedule of up to twelve 24-hour call days per month
- Travels to satellite locations to evaluate potential donors and speak with families as requested by MTN staff and leadership.
- Evaluates potential organ donors for suitability and maintains ability to serve as a resource to staff.
- Assesses family dynamics, and huddles with hospital team to advocate for brain death testing and develop a plan for a compassionate, family-focused donation discussion.
- Demonstrates ability to complete Authorization Form, Authorization Disclosure and Donor Risk Assessment Inventory (DRAI) with Authorizing Individuals/Legal Next-of-Kin (LNOK).
- Obtains accurate and complete donor medical/social history from authorizing individual/next-of-kin and other appropriate historians.
- Supports management of donation activities in a proactive and timely manner.
- Assists with planning and implementation of memorial and donor family events.
- Supports Donor Families/LNOK/Authorizing Individual throughout and after the donation process, as needed.
- Responds confidently to FPA Opposition situations by assisting hospital and MTN staff with implementing the FPA Opposition Algorithm.
