Essential Functions
Serves as Assistant Warden of Operations.
- Provides input into the development, establishment and implementation of institutional rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures of the institution to verify proper operation of daily functions.
- Administratively responsible and accountable of execution of policies and procedures in management of the institution while serving as Duty Warden.
Plans, organizes, and directs the overall operation functions and their managers, including, security, physical plant operations, dietary services, individual in custody discipline, and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
- Coordinates individual in custody programs related to these functions.
- Participates in the budget process by gathering data from department heads regarding current and anticipated programs and projects.
Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Assigns and reviews work.
- Provides guidance and training to assigned staff.
- Counsels staff regarding work performance.
- Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs.
- Establishes annual goals and objectives.
- Approves time off.
- Adjusts first level grievances.
- Effectively recommends and imposes discipline up to and including discharge.
- Prepares and signs performance evaluations.
- Determines and recommends staffing needs.
Participates in the operations of the Internal Affairs Unit by conducting investigations.
- Gathers data and prepares reports.
- Confirms policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Reviews existing policies and makes recommendations for revisions.
Coordinates the functions and operations of the Adjustment Committee and Merit Staff.
- Issues decisions on disciplinary actions involving the infractions of the institution rules by the individuals in custody.
- Holds regular interviews with individuals in custody by request in order to assist them with problems.
- Interviews and assists employees with personal and work-related problems.
Serves as Chairman of the Officers Review Board involved with hearings and recommending disciplinary action for employees for infractions of the rules and regulations.
- Hold second level grievances and provide written response.
- Reviews disciplinary reports in the absence of the Warden.
Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, training, and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding institution programs.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
