(Senior) Field Application Engineer (m/f/d)

Job Description

Currently we are searching for a Field Application Engineer (m/f/d) to support our Team. The position can be located in Nuremberg, Munich or Flensburg.

Job Responsibilities

The Field Application Engineer provides applications support for our products with a focus on intelligent power semiconductor modules, gate drivers, power electronic stacks and traction inverters. This role will interact directly with customers, sales, application engineering, R&D and quality teams.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Review customer technical requirements, perform electrical and thermal calculations and recommend suitable products.
• Conduct product and customer application related troubleshooting on customer site in cooperation with the SEMIKRON DANFOSS application engineering and quality team.
• Perform tests and measurements on power electronics systems.
• Collect information about market trends including competitor products, customer and application requirements and feed those back to the product marketing and product management team.
• Write technical requirements for customer specific products, prepare test & measurement reports and application notes.
• Prepare and perform technical presentations on customer site.
• Travel approximately 20% domestic, <5% international, with durations less than 1 week.

Background & Skills

For this position you have a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and a good understanding of power semiconductor operation, power inverters and converters through perennial work experience in related industry. You should be able to work safely around high voltage (50-1500VDC) circuits. Additionally, we are searching for:

• Proficiency with simulation/calculation software (SPICE, PSIM, MathCAD, MATLAB, etc)and basic electrical test equipment (e.g. oscilloscope, power supply, DMM).
• Knowledge of large (1kW to 1MW+) power converters.
• Experience in the design and operation of motor drives and/or DSP based motor controllers and basic thermal calculations (Foster/Cauer thermal models).
• Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle drive trains and battery charging systems.
• Good oral/written communications and presentation skills in German and English.
• Mainly working in an office environment but may include test lab or other industrial settings were appropriate PPE may be required
