We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AVP Data Steward to lead data governance efforts and ensure the quality, consistency, and proper strategic use of data across the organization. In this mid-senior role, you will collaborate closely with various business units, data governance teams, and IT to implement data management strategies that align with the company’s overall goals. You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with industry standards, mitigating data risks, facilitating superior client outcomes, and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
• Data Governance & Strategy: Lead and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and processes to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance across the organization.
• Data Stewardship: Act as the subject matter expert for specific domains, ensuring accurate and reliable data management practices, including metadata management, data classification, and lifecycle management.
• Collaboration: Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand data requirements and improve data-related processes. Serve as a bridge between business users and technical teams to define data standards and resolve data-related issues. Adopt “Reference Librarian” consultation model to optimize short-term and long-term license / produce / derive / use / cross-pollinate outcomes for the business.
• Data Quality Management: Develop and maintain data quality metrics, dashboards, and reports. Lead initiatives to enhance data quality, identify root causes of data discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
• Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure compliance with relevant data regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other financial industry standards. Ensure adherence to third-party license restrictions. Monitor and mitigate data risks to reduce potential exposure and ensure data security.
• Optimize Third Party Data Licenses: Lead efforts to optimize third-party data licenses by negotiating division-wide agreements with key vendors. Ensure cost-effectiveness, consistent data quality, and alignment with the organization’s data needs.
• Data Literacy & Education: Promote a data-driven culture by providing training and resources to business teams, helping them understand data governance practices and the importance of data stewardship to achieving business goals. Propagate a product mindset for data stewardship, focusing on quality, support, usability, and adoption KPIs.
• Technology Integration: Collaborate with IT and Data Management teams to support data infrastructure improvements, data warehousing initiatives, and the integration of new data management tools.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of experience in data stewardship, data governance, or data management roles within the financial services industry.
• Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality principles, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, BCBS 239, etc.).
• Experience with data management tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM InfoSphere, etc.) and familiarity with database technologies and data warehousing solutions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and educate cross-functional teams on data governance best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the financial services industry, particularly in areas such as data services, banking, or asset management.
• Data governance or data management certification (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, etc.) and big data environments.
This position offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment (2 days per week in-office), providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
